At this coming weekend, the city of Almaty is staging the World Nordic Combined World Cup.
Almost 50 world leading athletes have arrived in Kazakhstan to take part in the competition and compete for two sets of medals and rating points. Famous skier, Vancouver Olympic champion Jason Lamy-Chappuis will be defending his top spot in the world rankings. Other top skiers such as Italian Alessandro Pittin and Japanese Akito Watabe also arrived in Almaty. Representatives of 14 more countries will also perform at the recently built ski run situated near the Almaty Ski Jump Complex. Kazakhstan will be represented by Konstantin Sokolenko, Vladimir Polushin, and Sergei Sharabayev. On Friday, participants in the tournament tested the ski jump and the ski run as part of their official training session.
Olympic Champion in Nordic Combined Jason Lamy-Chappuis, said that his objective is to retain his leading position. He added he had strong opponents from Japan and Norway so the competition promises to be tense.
