Kazenergy forum’s Day 2 ends in Astana

How strongly is the human race dependent on nuclear energy? What is more preferable: nuclear power or renewable energy? These issues have been discussed by the participants of the sixth «Kazenergy» Eurasian Forum. The forum’s final presentation on the second day was devoted to nuclear energy issues. Teruaki Masumoto, the chairman of the Japanese Member Committee at the World Energy Council addressed the forum delegates. He spoke about the situation in Japan after the earthquake and tsunami which occurred on March 11. The problem on whether to continue working with atomic energy in different states is dealt with differently. The rapid development of the energy sector is one of the main objectives of the Kazakh government today. According to the plan, the power output is expected to exceed one hundred billion kilowatt-hours by 2015. At a meeting with local and foreign journalists, the «Samruk-Kazyna» fund’s CEO, Timur Kulibayev, noted that the range of issues of the energy forum is expanding constantly. While responding to questions, he confirmed that the first oil is planned to be produced at the Kashagan oilfield at the end of next year. Productive negotiations on the Karachaganak project are in progress as well.

Timur Kulibayev also announced the appointment of a new chief executive of «KazMunaiGas». Kairgeldy Kabyldin was succeeded by Managing Director of the «Samruk-Kazyna» fund and a board member of «KazMunaiGas» Bolat Akchulakov.
