Kazakh people enter Guinness Book of Records
Participants of the 1st Kazakh motor expedition to the South Pole established a record in the Guinness World Records. Members of the Kazakh Geographic Society are planning to hoist Kazakhstan’s national flag at the South Pole on December 16th, a day when the country will celebrate its 20th anniversary of independence. Scientists are planning to reach this point in 8-10 days. It is planned that scientists from Astana will fly to Abu Dhabi by the end of November and then to Cape Town. After that they will take a special flight to the Novolazarevskaya station in Antarctica. Before the expedition, the travelers tested their motor cars for the trip. This test drive was evaluated by representatives of the Guinness World Records. Jack Brockbank, the Guinness World Records Adjudicator, said that the pilot team of Kazakhstan including Konstantin Orlov and Stanislav Makarenko covered 2,308 kilometres in 108 hours, which is a world speed record of reaching the South Pole by car. The Guinness World Records Adjudicator presented the expedition participants with a corresponding certificate. It was previously reported that Kazakh scientists would conduct meteorological observations, take samples of ice, snow and air, perform survey operations, and measure the background radiation during the expedition.
