CSTO to mark its 10th anniversary

Officials at the Collective Security Treaty Organization is convinced that the West is unlikely to take military actions against Iran, but the Organisation is anyway taking measures in case the situation gets aggravated. A corresponding statement was made by the Secretary General of the Organisation, Nikolai Bordyuzha during a videoconference linking the capitals of the CSTO member-states. In 2012, member-states of the Organisation will mark the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Collective Security and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the CSTO. As of today, the Treaty unites Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The CSTO possesses a serious power potential, including peacekeeping forces and the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force. Nikolai Bordyuzha noted that during its 2012 presidency of the CSTO, Kazakhstan is taking very deliberate steps and focusing on high priority issues for the Organisation. As noted by Mr. Bordyuzha, the Organisation is now moving to a more broad range of acute issues including information security, terrorism, drug trafficking, and illegal migration.

Nikolai Bordyuzha, CSTO Secretary General:
- I can see how the current government of Kazakhstan operates and how these conditions are being adapted to the law. I can also see how active the special services and the law enforcement services in Kazakhstan operate. Therefore, I have no serious concerns about it. On the one hand, it is clear that there are acts of terrorism. On the other hand, I can not see any serious alarm to use the collective capacity for the neutralisation of all these threats. It is because the law enforcement services and the Kazakh authorities are taking adequate measures, those that are effective enough.
