The Karaganda region is part of the Central Kazakhstan province. One of the world’s largest lakes, Balkhash, and the unique Karkaraly mountain forest oasis are situated here. The Ulytau Mountains will be liked not only by fans of mountain tourism but also those who appreciate beautiful places in the wilderness. The region is also part of the trade and cultural spheres of the Great Silk Way.

Kent Settlement. Tribes which specialized in making bronze items lived here in the late Bronze Age. Even the furnaces where the settlers combined copper with tin were preserved on its territory.

Dioptase deposit .Dioptase is the “younger brother” of emerald. Dioptase crystals are often used for imitating this gem. One of the few deposits is found in the Karaganda region.

Balkhash Lake .This lake is the largest undrained water body after the Caspian and Aral Seas. The Balkhash phenomenon lies in the varied mineralization of its western and eartern parts which are connected by a narrow channel. The western basin which receives water from the Ili river is fresh and the eastern basin is saline.
